New Citycenter shopping centre and pedestrian zone will create attractive retail opportunities.
World Trade Centre Helsinki, situated at the heart of the city's business district, has 650 square metres of business premises available in a former bank hall vacated by Nordea bank. According to WTC Helsinki, it is
the premier international business resource in the city center of Helsinki and currently has some 100 tenants in the building.
Tomi Aimonen, Property Director at Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company which owns the building, says he is searching for tenants from companies in the fields of clothing, leisure or restaurants. Ilmarinen is also expanding the business premises adjacent to the bank hall. The Helsinki World Trade Centre building dates from 1929.
A new shopping centre located opposite the main railway station, is nearing the completion following major renovation work on a landmark block from the 1960s by real estate investment company Sponda Plc. Popularly known as the Sausage Building, the block is being turned into a lively, brightly-lit shopping centre called Citycenter with retail space on two underground floors and three floors above the street level.
The final stage of the project will include turning the adjacent Keskuskatu street into a pedestrian zone, creating new retail opportunities. According to Aimonen, the space has attracted interest from international brands that are considering to establish their operations in Finland.
Shopping Centre Manager Seppo Oksanen has confidence in the people's new 'living room' in Helsinki. “At the moment all commercial space available is occupied, and I'm sure new premises will find takers quickly. We're going to have a great fashion centre here, complemented by cafés and other recreational facilities,” he says.
