Investment Plan for Europe: new financing of the Juncker Plan in the transport sector

 The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a € 110 million financing contract to implement an innovative and sustainable transport project. The signing ceremony took place yesterday afternoon in Oignies in the Hauts-de-France region, in the presence of Carlos Moedas , European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation and French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve. This funding is supported by the European Strategic Investment Fund (EFSI) - the central element of the European Investment Plan, more commonly referred to as the Juncker Plan. The initiative will have a positive impact for more than 650,000 inhabitants of the Hauts-de-France region. The aim of this mobility project is to create 6 high-level Service Bus (BHNS) lines and to complete the existing frame (train, bus network) with a more reliable, fast and frequent means of transport. The funded project will also lead to the creation of more than 820 person-year jobs throughout the implementation period. Particular attention will be paid to the integration and employment of people in difficulty. Carlos Moedas , Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, said: "The agreement reached today is an ideal illustration of why EFSI was created: mobilizing investments to generate jobs, Of the growth and the real improvement of the quality of life of the populations. The Juncker Plan thus facilitates the modernization of public transport networks in order to ensure their efficiency, reliability and cleanliness for all inhabitants.
