Karins: USA is a strategic partner of Latvia and a close ally

On 9 and 10 July, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, meeting with US senior officials in Washington, has discussed bilateral relations between the US and Latvia, US support for Latvia's security, as well as transatlantic cooperation and international security, strengthening the supervision of the financial sector and investment opportunities, confirming \ t that the US is Latvia's strategic partner and close ally.

“When we met with US Vice President Mike Pens, we discussed the international security situation, especially in the Baltic Sea region, as well as the opportunities for economic cooperation, increasing the volume of US investment in Latvia. The Latvian business environment will have become considerably better for foreign investments by implementing the “major repair” of financial sector supervision, ”stressed K. Kariņš.

Investment Opportunities in Latvia, “Major Repairs of Financial Sector” and Strengthening of Transatlantic Relationships were key topics of discussion with US Spokesman Nenju Pelosi, Financial Secretary Steven Muenchen, and Trade Secretary Vilbur Ross.

K.Karins also participated in a public discussion “The US-Latvian Relationships During European Changes” organized by The Atlantic Council and in a roundtable discussion on the importance of transatlantic relations organized by The Hudson Institute in Washington. Video recording available here .

Following his visit, the Prime Minister will stay in New York, where he will address business at an event organized by the Baltic - American and European - American Chambers of Commerce. Likewise, Karin also has interviews with media representatives in New York, including an interview with Steve Forbo for his weekly podcast.
