During a courtesy meeting with a delegation from Partit Laburista, Malta Chamber President Mr Frank V. Farrugia said that the priorities of the Chamber were very similar to those of the political class, as they both shared an aspiration towards socio-economic balance.

Mr Farrugia told the delegation which was led by Deputy Leader, Hon Dr Christian Cardona, that for the country to achieve this balance, the private sector needed to be competitive.

“As the country enters into election mode, the Malta Chamber shall therefore strive to convince political parties to keep their feet firmly on the ground, especially while designing their electoral manifestos” Mr Farrugia said.

The President continued that it was imperative for electoral pledges to be well planned and costed, to ensure their sustainability and safeguard the competitiveness of our businesses which provide the largest portion of employment in the country.

Mr Farrugia said that the country’s economy was doing well, and all efforts needed to be made in order not to hinder the momentum gained in any way.

Mr Farrugia was accompanied by Deputy President Mr David Xuereb, Vice Presidents Ms Marisa Xuereb and Mr Andrew W. J. Mamo, Officer Mr Hugh Arrigo, Director General Mr Kevin J. Borg and Head of Policy Mr Andre Fenech.
