Minister of National Defense launches ideas contest for future Defense Campus

The ideas contest for the future Defense Campus was launched, which will operate in the historic Lancer Regiment 2, located between the Ajuda Palace and the Belém Palace in Lisbon.

 

The Minister of National Defense, João Gomes Cravinho, said during the launching ceremony that the objective is to give National Defense structures and officials “a functional and modern space, with the best working conditions and perfectly integrated with the memory of the historic building that will host it and in harmony with the community and the space in which it operates, with special attention to environmental issues.

 

The ambition is that this "new headquarters of National Defense be a model for the whole of the Public Administration" and be understood as a project of national interest and a "fusion between modernity and history", in which identity is preserved for " endow the National Defense with a modern, dignified and multipurpose structure »of a governing area of ​​sovereignty, he said.

 

The Campus Defense project will be funded by the disposal of the current building in Restelo, which currently houses the National Defense services and the Armed Forces General Staff, and is therefore financially neutral.

 

The project specifications - published on the electronic public procurement platform (acinGov) - state that proposals must: respect the principles of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency of the building; safeguard the specific security requirements of National Defense; respect balanced integration in the space of the city to which it belongs; include work-life reconciliation solutions that value people, considered the most important resources of any institution.

 

The Minsitro also stated that "being able to bring together a very significant part of the bodies and institutions that make up the National Defense Universe symbolizes this desire to stimulate the efficiency and the creation of synergies that come from sharing common spaces." 

 

An innovative space

 

Notwithstanding the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage, regarding the preservation of the building, the future Defense Campus will be characterized by: energy efficiency in lighting and air conditioning systems; sustainability through the reuse of rainwater for irrigation or sanitation services; security systems including intrusion, fire, video surveillance and access control; modern communications networks; technical installations appropriate to the safety classes of each area of ​​the building.

 

The facility will be able to accommodate 1300 employees, spread over 500 offices. There are also 40 meeting rooms, a main auditorium with capacity for 300 people and a secondary auditorium for 100 people. The cafeteria will have a capacity of 300 people and a bar for 100 people.

 

In addition to these structures directly related to the mission of the governing area of ​​the National Defense, others are planned, such as nursery, mini-market, bank, restaurant, gym, one-stop service (internal and public), several spaces for own meal, archive, warehouses, prime hall, museum center, library, media library, data center, secure video conference rooms, language center, maintenance workshops, information and communication technology office, security office and medical office.
