Motorola Mobility, Inc. to acquire Sweden’s leading IPTV software provider, Dreampark

Motorola Mobility, Inc. Wednesday announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dreampark, a leading IPTV software provider based in Norrköping, Sweden. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2011. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Dreampark’s software portfolio maximizes operator flexibility and performance by taking advantage of the powers of open standards, such as HTML and scalable vector graphics (SVG), which, when combined with comprehensive software development kits (SDK) , allows operators to obtain full control of their television portals for complete customization.

The Dreampark portfolio is expected to be integrated into the Motorola Medios service management software suite.

John Burke, senior vice president and general manager of Motorola Mobility’s Converged Experiences business, said the transaction enables the firm continue enhancing its Medios software portfolio and capitalize upon the convergence of wireless technology, media, mobile computing and the Internet.

Burke stated that with the acquisition of Dreampark, Motorola Mobility will strengthen its ability to provide systems integrators, service providers, enterprises and content providers with innovative solutions for deploying converged media experiences.

Post the transaction, Dreampark will be integrated into Motorola Mobility’s Converged Experiences business, complementing Motorola Mobility’s mobile device and home experience and broadening its reach across multiple screens.

Per Skyttvall, CEO of Dreampark, said the move to join Motorola Mobility brings a broader software portfolio to Dreampark’s existing customer base. Skyttvall reiterated that the software industry is fast evolving as consumers look to view content on their own terms. As such, Dreampark is excited to be extending its software innovation across multiple devices as a result of this agreement with Motorola Mobility, added Skyttvall.

Motorola Mobility, Inc. fuses innovative technology with human insights to create experiences that simplify, connect and enrich people's lives. The firm portfolio includes converged mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets; wireless accessories; end-to-end video and data delivery; and management solutions, including set-tops and data-access devices.

Motorola Mobility was formerly Motorola, Inc., an American-based, multinational, telecommunications company based in Schaumburg, Illinois, which was split into two independent public companies, Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions on January 4, 2011 after having lost $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009.

Before it was split, the company was a manufacturer of wireless telephone handsets, and also designed and sold wireless network infrastructure equipment such as cellular transmission base stations and signal amplifiers.
