Simulation of regional economics was initiated

The simulation of regional economy started with a startup meeting on 7 September in Helsinki. Around 200 state, provincial and municipal representatives met to accelerate the provincial economy and guidance training to prepare for the controlled start of the region's activities in early 2020.

The simulation program co-ordinated by the Ministry of Finance is intended to take over the provincial economic and governance process in central government and provinces, reduce inaccuracies in budgeting and gain experience-based information on making financial decisions in the new system. In practice, simulation is carried out by experimenting with different workshops, experimental discussions, guidelines and calculations. At least the provinces, the provincial service centers, the municipalities, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of the Environment will participate in the simulation.

At the opening ceremony, representatives of ministries, service centers and provinces went through the principles, challenges and simulation opportunities of provincial guidance and funding. The view that the future county administration requires a completely new kind of interaction and a culture of co-operation between the state and the provinces has been shared jointly. The simulation of the provincial economy that is now in operation provides an excellent opportunity to practice co-operation.

Implementation of simulation starts immediately and continues to accelerate until summer 2018. The schedule of the simulation with timetables will be published on the alueuudistus.fi website in the coming weeks.
