Unveiling of the Brussels 2018 Summit Logo with the NATO Secretary General

On May 25, we gathered here in Brussels for the delivery of its new headquarters to NATO. It was also the occasion of an important special meeting at which our solidarity was reaffirmed.

After Warsaw, Newport, Chicago or Lisbon, Belgium is honored to welcome you again for the next Alliance Summit on July 11 and 12, 2018.

The logo of the summit affirms the symbol of the fingers of two crossed hands, a sign of the unity and confidence of NATO members.

This summit will also take place during the summer when Belgium will submit to the vote its candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This summit sends out a strong signal to the world.

A signal that NATO will always guarantee the safety of our citizens.

Because in the face of a world we will always have a world of common values.

Individual freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law are what we defend for present and future generations.

The threats are diverse and new. And neither the nor NATO can tackle them alone.

So I am very happy to welcome you again in the heart of Europe, in Belgium.

I am sure that the summit will continue to grow.

Such as we have done in the past.

I want to thank you all, and especially you Jens, for the trust you show in us.

Thank you and welcome to Brussels.
