Venice Film Festival: Five prizes reward EU-supported films

Five films supported by the MEDIA program- the EU support program for the European film and audiovisual industries - were awarded at the 76th Venice Film Festival. The Silver Lion for Best Director was awarded to Roy Andersson for "About Endlessness" (Sweden, Germany, Norway). The "Volpi Cup" for best actor has been awarded to Luca Marinelli for his role in "Martin Eden" (Italy, France). As part of the "Orizzonti" competition dedicated to the latest trends in international cinema, the films supported by the European Union have been awarded two prizes: the Orizzonti prize for best director has been awarded to Théo Court for "Blanco en blanco" ( Spain, Chile, France, Germany) and Marta Nieto received the best actress award for her role in the film "Madre" (Spain, France). The Luigi de Laurentiis Award went to Amjad Abu Alala for his debut feature, "You Will Die At 20". Twelve EU-supported films were presented this year at the Venice Film Festival. Each year the MEDIA program supports around 2 000 European projects, notably for the development, promotion and distribution of European works. The program also invests in the training of producers, film distributors, directors and writers. More information on MEDIA-supported films at the Venice Film Festival are available especially for the development, promotion and distribution of European works. The program also invests in the training of producers, film distributors, directors and writers. More information on MEDIA-supported films at the Venice Film Festival are available especially for the development, promotion and distribution of European works. The program also invests in the training of producers, film distributors, directors and writers. More information on MEDIA-supported films at the Venice Film Festival are availablehere and on the European Film Forum organized during the festival here .
